TSB £4.5m competition deadline June 30
The UK’s Technology Strategy Board is running a £4.5m competition for research into ‘smart’ energy use in homes. The deadline is June 30, 2010.
The TSB is primarily interested in projects that look at the effect on consumer demand of integrating smart technologies into the home. It says: “There are untested risks which might slow the adoption and development of smart technology along all parts of the value chain, even though many of the technologies that can contribute to the smart grid system are already developed.”
Details of TSB research and development funding opportunities can be found at the Competitions page of the Technology Strategy Board website. There is also a competitions helpline on 0300 321 4357.

This was a thought-provoking article.
“There are untested risks which might slow the adoption and development of smart technology along all parts of the value chain, even though many of the technologies that can contribute to the smart grid system are already developed.”
Are there any actual inventions that resulted from this kind of competition from TSB?
According to TSB website:
http://www.innovateuk.org/case-studies.ashx
There are quite a few ideas that were introduced to everyday life, or are about to be introduced. Just like the result of the project (reference number) 16879, which was related to hazardous waste management. As a result:
“The technology developed in the project is now ready to be used at full commercial scale of around 30,000 tonnes per year, and the funding has increased Tetronics’ access to a growing market.”
The number of technologies developed through TSB projects looks really promising, but are there untested risks which might slow down the whole process?
